Dr. Donald Sheppard named new Board Chairman

Donald Elisha Sheppard, Ph.D., Pastor of Watson Temple Institutional Church of God in Christ in Tallahassee, FL will serve as Chair of The National Board of Trustees for The National Association for the Preservation of African-American History & Culture, Inc. for the 2015-2016 term. “I feel the organization is important and paramount,” stated Sheppard, who was appointed to the board in 2014. “I will gladly do my best to serve. I appreciate the confidence, I appreciate (the) support.”

Sheppard was appointed pastor of Watson Temple in 1998 by his late father, Bishop Elbert Lee Sheppard.

Professionally, he was employed for nine years at Homes and Land Publishing Corporation in Tallahassee where he served as Design Artist, Team Leader, Employee Assistants Chairman, and Employee of the Month. After receiving his master's degree at FSU, he began teaching art at Griffin Middle School. He taught there for fifteen years and is currently teaching art at Montford Middle School. As an educator, he has received the Sallie Mae District Finalist Award, the Minority Educator district finalist award, recognition from the Tallahassee Arts Council, and is featured in the book Real Lives: Art Teachers and the Culture of Schools by Dr. Tom Anderson.

Dr. Sheppard is married to the former Sarah Rivers, and he has one daughter, Donarah.
